Usually I watch anime series, but I’ve watched very few anime movies. Sadly, I’ve never seen any of the Ghibli movies. I was wondering why this studio is so highly considered. Can can you please suggest a Ghibli movie to start with? Please don’t suggest a depressing one. And it will be great if the movie is not too long. Thanks a lot!
Because they made a lot of great movies. About half of them were made by Hayao Miyazaki, so he’s a big part of the reason why Ghibli has such a good reputation.
I suggest starting with Spirited Away, a fantasy/adventure movie about a girl who ends up in the spirit world. It’s the most popular Ghibli movie, and the one that most people start with.
If you want something shorter, then maybe consider My Neighbor Totoro, a relaxing movie set in the countryside.
If you want to try a non-Miyazaki Ghibli movie, then start with Princess Kaguya.
The only depressing Ghibli movie is Grave of the Fireflies.
Edit: Thanks a lot, everyone. Sorry I could not reply to all the comments as there are many, but I assure you I’ve read all of them. One thing is for sure, I am convinced to start with Ghibli. I was watching a few videos of Ghibli movies on YouTube and I felt refreshed and there was a feeling of coziness. 🥰 again, thanks a lot!
